Do you want to change your hair color? It’s one of the fastest ways to revitalize and update your look. At Polished Hair Care we take hair coloring (like everything else we do) very seriously. It’s an option that can offer a different look as well as irreversible damage if it’s not done right though. Since many women have chemically treated hair (perms, hair straighteners, relaxers), you’ll be layering one chemical alteration on top of another. This is one of the main reasons you have to be careful when getting a color added to your hair.
You should also keep in mind that you can’t get your relaxer and permanent hair color on the same day as this can severely damage your hair. Our team prefers to provide you with your chemical service first and then follow up with the coloring two weeks later. Why? Because any chemical service tends to lift up the cuticle and make your hair extremely fragile during the process. Double processing the hair will inevitably damage the hair shaft permanently. Immediately following any chemical service we recommend a deep conditioner to close down the cuticle layer of your hair (the cuticle layer is the outside layer of your hair shaft) and restore your hair’s moisture.
But never fear, there are other options for coloring as well. At Polished we offer rinses that do not contain ammonia or peroxide. Rinses coat, rather than penetrate your hair, and restore a vibrant shine to the hair. Also, rinses are semi-permanent, thus they will fade more and more with each consecutive wash.
Where to Find Hair Color Ideas
Look though style magazines or hair styling books for ideas before you come to the salon. It’s a great way to communicate with your stylist to find the exact hair color you want.
What’s Right For You
There are many things to take into consideration when choosing a hair color. It can depend on your lifestyle for one. Are you in a conservative job? Something artsy? In between? It also depends on your skin tone. Some colors can make your face looked washed out, for example, if you have yellow undertones you should avoid deep gold. If you have pale skin, avoid deep dark colors. If you have dark/tan skin, avoid a one-tone blonde.
Upkeep
Hair color can fade from view long before you are ready but you can easily have brilliant hair color in-between regular salon visits simply by following these tips:
*Don’t wash your hair too frequently, and when you do, use a color-safe shampoo like Aveda Color Control. Use a professional moisturizing conditioner for color-treated hair. Always look for label claims regarding antioxidant and/or sunscreen ingredients to help protect your hair against UVA-UVB rays.
*Leave-in conditioners are excellent to keep the hair brilliant in between visits.
*Visit us regularly at the salon, and always follow our advice when it comes to preserving the vibrancy of your hair color.
